Established in 2150, Superflower.co is a bionic flower innovation that saved the earth from desolation a decade ago.

GAS CONVERSION TECHNOLOGY

Each Superflower© petal contains highly efficient solar energy particles that turn a record-breaking 87% of sunlight into electricity using micro-cells made from cadmium telluride. A single Superflower© can singlehandedly generate enough power for 4 hectares of a residential area.

The flower centers of each Superflower© takes in CO2 in the atmosphere and transports it via an extensive underground network to our gas conversion facility. The CO2 is converted to O2 through synthetic photosynthesis processes and released back into the atmosphere from the undersides of each Superflower© petal.

Rowee and EVA are plays on the names of the real students behind this project, roe curie (L) and averlynn lim (r).

Tasked with a project from Prof Andrew Quitmeyer of NUS CNM NM4225 Design Fiction, Curie and Averlynn set out to brainstorm a futuristic design innovation that will help combat ecological issues using future technology.  Intrigued by issues of global warming, their initial design ideas revolved around solving climate change problems. After iterations of prototyping, modelling, and failures, thus came the birth of Superflower.co - the world's first bionic flower innovation.

It's Year 2150, and in the dystopian world that we are in, global warming has worsened with record high temperatures, and non-renewable resources are scarce. In a bid to alleviate these climate change issues, thus came the invention of Superflowers, a high-tech innovation equipped with highly advanced gas conversion and solar energy technology which aims to bring the world back to its equilibrium. 10 years on, and Superflowers become a common sight everywhere in the world. Its gas conversion technology has helped restore the atmospheric gas balance to optimum levels, bringing down global temperatures. To combat the scarcity of non-renewable resources and reduce the burning of fossil fuels, the solar energy technology provides everybody with a clean and efficient energy source.

NM4225 Design Fiction is a module which introduces, discusses, and evaluates various techniques of design thinking and exploration related to emergent technologies and near future scenarios. The topic for this semester is Frontiers of Ecological Interaction, where students will focus on the future of human interaction with the natural environment and explore questions such as "What are the upcoming ways in which our interactions with plants, animals, and ecosystems be changed by advents in new media and technology?". They will utilise various modes of storytelling, prototyping, scenarios, and other abilites of Digital Media to build connections to other living entities.
